Onions at the Vegetable Festival

Onions are one of the stars of the Fiestas de la Verdura (Vegetable Festival), held every April in the Ribera region of Navarre.

This annual event celebrates the richness and diversity of local farming. We’ll be able to enjoy a wide range of activities and events that showcase our region’s culinary culture and the importance of supporting our local farmers and producers.

From delicious tastings of fresh vegetable dishes to live music and competitions, there’s something for everyone at the 2024 Vegetable Festival.

The Vegetable Festival comes to Fustiñana

PINCHO WEEKEND. May 4 and 5. A contest of pinchos made with vegetables (and with our onions too!) in the town’s bars.

GRAND FINAL OF THE RIBERA MENESTRA CONTEST. This year, for the first time, the grand final of the Ribera of Navarre menestra contest will be held in Fustiñana. Sunday, May 5, 12:30 p.m.

Onions in vegetable dishes

Onions are essential in vegetable recipes thanks to their versatility and unique flavour. As an aromatic ingredient, they add depth and complexity to vegetable dishes. Their ability to caramelise brings sweetness and richness, balancing flavours and enhancing the whole culinary experience.

Onions also add texture and body, making them a base ingredient in many recipes. Whether in sofritos, stews or salads, they lift any dish, making them an essential element in the kitchen, both to bring out the flavour of other ingredients and to take centre stage themselves.
